2021 California Tire Workshop Series and Presenters

Our Retreading Best Practice 34 The Division conducted a pilot review and determined the Tier-I tire was our best value to support the efforts in reducing dependency on raw materials. Additionally, Tier-I casing can typically be retreaded multiple times. Tires sizes below 19” are commonly used in our passenger car/light truck fleet. Quality and best value was applied to use Tier-II tires for our light fleet. Initially we used retreads in our light truck fleet with mixed results. Over the past twenty-one years, the Division has continued to use retreads in our medium and heavy on and off- road fleet for tires sizes 19.5” and above. Age as a factor… For our “On the Road” retreads, we adopted a casing age not to exceed five years. Manufacturers recommend 7-year range. Properly stored tires can be kept an additional 2 years.
